What is Daylight PDT?

Daylight Photodynamic Therapy (dPDT) is a treatment for fields of solar damage ( Actinic Keratosis) (AK).

It involves the application of a photo-sensitising gel and the use of daylight to activate it.

The gel helps start a process in the damaged cells to destroy them while leaving the healthy cells alone. In addition to treating actinic keratosis, Daylight PDT also provides an excellent cosmetic result, as pigmentation is reduced, lines are minimised and the overall skin looks fresher and brighter.

The treatment is carried out as an out-patient procedure,  no preparation is required and two and a total of three hours should be set aside for the whole procedure.

We will provide you with a all the information needed to help guide you through the procedure and aftercare.

What is Red-light PDT?

Conventional or Red-light Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a technique used to treat certain types of skin cancers such as superficial basal cell carcinomas, Bowen's disease and areas of sun damaged skin (pre-cancerous) that might become cancer in the future.

A gel is applied in the same way as for Daylight PDT but in this case a special red lamp is used to activate the gel which is then absorbed by the abnormal cells, leaving the healthy cells unaffected.

The treatment is carried out as an out-patient procedure ,no preparation is required and a total of four hours should be set aside for the whole procedure.

We will provide you with a all the information needed to help guide you through the procedure and aftercare.
